Corio Norlane Lions Club members are serving their community through a range of successful programs. And the club is always looking for new members and volunteers.
Secretary Richard Walter said: “We still run our bike program in which we obtain secondhand bicycles, clean them, repair them, paint them and then give them away. So far, we have provided more than 650 bicycles to children. John McKinnin started this and has received enormous satisfaction and enjoyment, but he needs volunteers to help support the program.”
The club’s breakfast program at Northern Bay College’s Goldsworthy Road campus is going strong under the supervision of Zelma Rowbottom, but needs more volunteers to be able to continue.
“This year we are continuing The Road Home project, collecting winter items and hygiene products to support those experiencing homelessness. We are talking with potential ambassadors for the project and will be running events that community members can support,” Richard said.
“Our computer program is off and running again, with requests coming in from schools around Geelong. We have donated more than 350 computers to needy families. And our barbecues at ALDI Corio are held on the second and fourth Saturday of each month to raise money to support our breakfast program, so please come along and have a sausage.”
The Lions Golden Opportunity Community Shop runs at 55 Alkira Avenue in Norlane, where cheap items are available for purchase. Other events supported by the club include: North Shore Football Club gates,
An annual Trivia Night, Ironman Triathlon, Geelong Show Car Parking, Northern Carols by Candlelight and a Peace Poster competition.
