New partnerships in Corio and Norlane have\nexpanded learning opportunities for participants at two established support\nprograms. Cloverdale Community Centre has joined with Northern Futures and the\nNorthern Bay College Family Centre to give their participants a new way of\naccessing Getting Ahead. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Getting Ahead aims to help participants\nestablish where their lives are now, to better understand other forces outside\ntheir control and to build resources for their future. It is being run in three\nmodules over 15 weeks, with the backing of the Department of Education, and\nstarted at Northern Futures in May .<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cloverdale Community Centre manager Liz\nBonner said a unique feature of the partnership program is that Northern\nFutures has a specialist case worker also join in every session. \u201cThis means\nour facilitator can lead the learning part of the program and there is extra\nsupport on-the-spot for anyone needing it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve been encouraged by the commitment of\neveryone so far and we know that having case worker there just to support\nparticipants is making a difference,\u201d Liz said. \u201cIt\u2019s given us the confidence\nto develop new partnerships.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The program is also about to begin with a\ngroup of young parents of Northern Bay College Family Centre, using the same\nformat.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
