Year 6 students from Northern Bay College\nare stepping up to take on community leadership roles, as they tackle\nVictoria\u2019s leading schools-based philanthropy initiative for children aged\neight to 12. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kids as Catalyst is run by Kids Thrive, a\nnot-for-profit creative organisation for child voice, choice and agency.\nStudents from the Wexford, Tallis, Hendy and Peacock campuses have identified a\ndiverse range of issues and are actively working on projects related to\ncultural diversity, the environment, elders, animals, gender and all abilities.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Andrea Rieniets, Co-Creative Director and\nLead Artist, Kids Thrive said: \u201cKids as Catalyst is a two-phase, 16-week social\naction program. Students identify issues in the Geelong community that matter\nto them and partner with relevant community groups to develop solutions and take\naction.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

 196\nstudents from a broad range of cultural backgrounds and abilities are taking\npart.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

 \u201cWe\nalso have 20 year 7 students who participated in this program in the past and\nhave returned as mentors for the younger students,\u201d Andrea said. \u201cThey\u2019ve been\nincredible in their support and continue to put into practice the program\nvalues, such as gratitude, kindness, giving and volunteering.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is the second year Kids as Catalyst\nprogram is being delivered at the College. It is aligned with the Victorian\nCurriculum through Social Emotional Learning (SEL), Civics and Citizenship,\nLiteracy, Numeracy, Economics and Critical Thinking. In 2017 the program\nreceived the VicHealth Improving Mental Wellbeing Award.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n
